April 24th, 2017

Hello Amigos! Greetings from Mazatlan!

Spring is here and we’re having beautiful sunny days with low humidity. Very pleasant conditions to visit Mazatlan and spend some time on the water.

Deep Sea Fishing saw a great improvement in Striped Marlin and Yellow Fin Tuna numbers during the last few weeks. Bottom Fishing has been good for Gulf Coney, Snappers and Jack Crevalle. Mangrove Fishing is currently very good for Snook, White Sea Bass and Snappers. Here’s our fish report.

Deep Sea.

During April, we’ve caught several good sized Striped Marlin; heaviest being over 100 lb. On the other hand, Yellow Fin Tuna have not been very big, but we’ve had many days with multiple fish (dozen plus). Anglers really enjoy fishing for these fierce and strong fish. Great table quality too!

Other fish caught this month include Sailfish and Mahi-Mahi (Dorado).

What’s biting?
Best bait these days has been Mullet. Lures have been working very good, too.

Inshore Fishing.

Bottom fishing has been very good, except for a few slow days last week. Recent trips have produced: Spotted Rose Snapper, Parrot Sand Bass, Gulf Coney, Red Snapper, Amberjack, Popeye Catalufa, Leopard Grouper, Jack Crevalle, Trigger Fish, Grunt, Yellow Snapper and Mojarra. Lots of fish have been caught and released.

Special mention to The Dubé’s who had an outstading catch that included five very big Red Snappers (11 lb, 13 lb, 18 lb, 24 lb & 31 lb) on March 20th, 2017 (see photo at the end of report). They also caught (including Released): Leopard Grouper, Trigger Fish and Mojarra. Way to go!!!!!

Best bait: Shrimp.

Mangrove Fishing.

Very good for Snook, Red Snapper, White Sea Bass and Yellow Snapper. Other fish caught recently include: Blackfin Snook, Dog Snapper, Jack Crevalle, Grunt, Mexican Barred Snapper, Mojarra, Leopard Grouper, Goggle Eye, Pacific Pompano, Chiro, Chub and Cat Fish.

Best bait: Live Shrimp.

Water Temperature is currently: 77 F.
